Why Is the Cross the Symbol of Christianity?
(Jujika wa Naze Kirisutokyoh no Shinboru nanoka?)
EHC
What do you associate with Christianity? Most often it is a cross that symbolizes it. It’s the wooden cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified. But why would such a cruel image become a symbol of Christianity? The four Gospels tell the story of how Jesus preached salvation, healed the sick and did many miracles and many people admired him. But jealous leaders convinced the Roman governor to condemn Jesus to death on the cross even though he was innocent of treason. Jesus knew this would happen as part of God’s plan and told his disciples it would (Matthew 20:18-19). Compared to sinless Jesus, we people are all sinners (Romans 3:10) and deserve punishment of death as the wrath of a holy God against sin. Jesus showed this when he told a crowd who wanted to stone a woman caught in adultery to cast a stone if they were without sin. No one did (John 8). Jesus “came to give his life as a ransom price for many” (Matthew 20:28). God loved us so much that he sacrificed his own Son, Jesus, to take the punishment for our sin as our substitute, and all who believe receive eternal life (John 3:16). Christianity is called the religion of love. “Jesus Christ crucified” is the central message of Christianity. Pack of 50. \750+
